Italian Seasoning and Rosemary

So I just wanted to let you know that I was cooking with Italian seasoning tonight and I realized that my Italian seasoning was down by the R's and S's! Then I thought "How in the world did the Italian Seasoning, which starts with an I, end up by all the spices that start with R's and S's?" I looked to see which spice was switched and sure enough it was the rosemary! The same rosemary that you used to make those delicious potato slices! I switched them to the proper alphabetical order but I am going to go and switch them back to the out of order way because I would rather laugh and think of you when I can't find my alphabetized spices than have them efficiently placed in alphabetical order:) I know this is silly but I thought I would share it with you because it made me think of you and now when I cook with my spices I will think of you and our fun camping trip! I love you and miss you tons!

23 WONDERFUL years!

Hey there! So I have been thinking a lot about what I want to post on here. I have been kinda intimidated because it's my FIRST blog post and I want it to be amazing! I am thinking that the overall vision for this blog should be just what you said...thoughts, recipes, wisdom (or lack there of), encouragement, knowledge and whatever else comes to mind. I figure since yesterday was my birthday (thanks for the message by the way) I would write about some of my goals for the coming year so here it goes...

23 things I want to accomplish while I'm 23:

1. Camp at least 3 times (this could include backyard camping)
2. Make a new recipe once a week (I'm hoping I'll get some ideas from Chef Maria)
3. Work hard
4. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle- I know this is cliche but I really want to do it
5. Start reading my bible more regularily
6. Spend more quality time with my siblings and parents (biological and in-laws)
7. Visit Maria AT LEAST once
8. Read as much and as often as I can
9. Ride my bike
10. Pay an extra $10K on one of our mortgages (which would require me getting a full-time job)
11. Help people around me whenever I can
12. Be grateful
13. Can veggies from my garden (hopefully in the form of salsa:)
14. Meet 5 neighbors
15. Make a video of my grandparents
16. Get more involved at church
17. Have friends over for dinner at least one time per month
18. Be more patient
19. Complete "Every Monday Matters" 52 weeks
20. Invest in my relationships
21. Gain wisdom from my grandparents and other people around me
22. Love my husband more every day (not hard to do:)
23. Enjoy every moment!

So there you go. I suppose you should have expected a list from me! I am going to print this out and post it on the bulletin board in our guest bedroom so that I am reminded of it often. I think that you should make your way to WI one more time before you head back to D.C. I would love to see you again and miss you like crazy! By the way, thanks for setting all this up. I'm so excited about it!

What is the vision of this blog Joy? You know we need a vision...

Hey sister. So what are your ideas for this? I was thinking this could be a place where we post recipes, project ideas, easy ways to save money, maybe you teaching me what investing and a mortgage looks like....ha. I miss you already and continue to think about our good times together from this last weekend. Thanks for being a lovely woman. I am challenged and desire to have a more purposeful life when I spend time with you. Here is a FABULOUS recipe that I made for the fam tonight. If you and James like shrimp at all, I would totally recommend it. Actually, even if you don't like shrimp you should still make it.

Linguine with Shrimp, Asparagus, and Basil
8 ounces linguine

3 tablespoons olive oil
2 garlic cloves, chopped
1/2 cup dry white wine
1 tablespoon butter
12 uncooked large shrimp, peeled and deveined with tails intact
12 slender asparagus, trimmed, cut diagonally into 1 1/2-inch pieces
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

2 cups (packed) fresh basil leaves, thinly sliced, plus additional for garnish
2 lemon wedges

Cook pasta in large pot of boiling salted water until just tender but still firm to bite, stirring occasionally.

Meanwhile, heat oil in heavy large skillet over medium-high heat. Add garlic; sauté 1 minute. Add wine and butter; boil 2 minutes. Add shrimp, asparagus, and lemon juice. Toss until asparagus is just tender and shrimp are just opaque in center, about 3 minutes.

Drain pasta and add to skillet; add 2 cups sliced basil leaves and toss until basil wilts and sauce coats pasta, about 1 minute. Season with salt and pepper. Divide pasta between 2 plates. Garnish with fresh basil leaves and lemon wedges and serve.
